Bed made of curved aluminum and birch MDF
The bed is made of only two materials: bent aluminum and cut birch MDF. Two aluminum parts form the supporting structure, and the frame consists of four clearly cut MDF elements. Each component has a unique function. There is nothing superfluous. This creates a light, calm presence in the room.
The design is focused on simple and efficient production. The two aluminum parts are cut and bent from flat material. The frame consists of two long and two short MDF parts, which are accurately sawn and assembled. Two small MDF elements additionally stabilize the construction. A standard slatted frame rests on internal support strips and can be easily removed or replaced if necessary.
For future versions, a simple plug-in mechanism is conceivable to connect two beds as a modular system.
I wanted to design a bed that focuses on the essentials, without technical gimmicks or decorative elements. The idea came from the consideration of creating a functional and calm object with as few simple parts as possible.
Two materials, two processes: bending and cutting. That's all it takes. The bed is honestly constructed. Visible, comprehensible, and deliberately understated. At the same time, it remains open for further developments: for example, a way to connect multiple beds without changing the basic principle.
