Omio
Connected charging station for private use
Swarm intelligence as the foundation of the charging network
The Omio concept is built on the idea that many small private charging stations together create a large and dynamically growing network. Households can make their own station accessible to others and generate additional income. This decentralized approach allows the charging infrastructure to expand faster and more flexibly than through centralized planning, making the shift to electric mobility easier especially in rural areas and neighborhoods without public chargers.
App Design
The Omio app connects users and private operators in one network. It shows available charging stations, allows reservations and provides live data on price, power and status. For operators it offers simple controls to share their station, set prices and manage energy use with automated billing. Integration with smart home systems makes it possible to use surplus solar energy for charging instead of feeding it back into the grid.
Physical Product Design
The Omio charging station combines a clear form language with functional details. A slightly curved top prevents water buildup and creates a dynamic appearance. Large LED strips along the edges communicate charging status at a glance while the central display provides live data and user feedback.
Perforated side panels act as passive cooling for high charging loads and are seamlessly integrated into the design. Together the form, light communication and intuitive interface create a durable and user friendly charging solution for a decentralized network.
Ecological and Economic Benefits
Omio improves charging availability while using renewable energy more efficiently. Surplus solar power from private households can be used directly for charging instead of being fed into the grid, increasing self consumption and easing pressure on public networks.
For operators it offers a way to share private wallboxes and generate extra income with flexible pricing and automated billing. This decentralized network grows faster than public infrastructure and is especially valuable in rural areas or neighborhoods lacking chargers.
By relying on swarm intelligence Omio connects technological, social and ecological aspects, creating a sustainable and scalable approach to electric mobility.
