AeroDial

Lightweight repairable bike hand pump

AeroDial was developed as a fifth semester project in technical design, created in collaboration with Emilia Hattesen. The focus was to build a bike pump for urban commuters that feels considered in every detail, pleasant to use and free from unnecessary gestures. Its form is calm, its colour palette deliberate and its handling straightforward. The result is an object that is designed to be carried, used and maintained without effort.

AeroDial is built from European components and manufactured entirely in Germany. All parts are screwed rather than bonded, allowing the whole assembly to be taken apart, serviced or replaced with ease. The components are kept lightweight without compromising durability, and the materials were selected for a clear and honest appearance. The fabric loop is replaceable and supports the double stroke when pulling, while also offering a simple attachment point when carried on a backpack.

A rotary dial on the pump head enables a seamless switch between Schrader and Presta valves. The pump is designed to work reliably in daily commuting and longer bikepacking trips, with a focus on stable operation and intuitive handling. Every functional element is reduced to what is necessary, resulting in a tool that feels precise, long lasting and quiet in its presence.
