Bed made of curved aluminum and birch MDF
The bed is made from only two materials: curved aluminum and cut birch MDF. Two aluminum parts form the supporting structure while the frame consists of four precisely cut MDF elements. Each component serves a clear purpose with nothing superfluous. The result is a light and calm presence in the room.
The design is made for simple and efficient production. The two aluminum parts are cut from flat stock and bent into shape. The frame consists of two long and two short MDF elements that are precisely cut and slotted together. Two small MDF pieces add extra stability. A standard slatted frame rests on inner support rails and can be easily removed or replaced if needed.
For future versions a simple connector system is envisioned to allow two beds to be combined into a modular setup.
I wanted to design a bed reduced to the essentials without technical features or decorative elements. The goal was to create a functional and calm object from a few simple parts.
Two materials and two processes bending and cutting are all it needs. The construction is honest, visible and deliberately restrained while leaving room for future developments such as connecting multiple beds without changing the core principle.
