Bed made of bent aluminum and birch MDF
Everything in Björk is either bent aluminum or cut birch MDF. Two aluminum parts carry the bed, while four MDF boards form the frame around the mattress.
Both aluminum parts start as flat sheet that is cut and then bent into shape, and the two long and two short MDF boards slot into each other, with two small pieces added for stiffness. Inside the frame, a standard slatted base rests on support rails, so it lifts out whenever it needs replacing.
For a later version I’d like to add a simple connector that joins two beds into one without changing how each of them is built.
I wanted a bed without technical extras or decoration, made from as few parts as possible. Bending and cutting are the only two processes it needs, and I left the construction visible instead of hiding it.
