Kono
Coffee Table
Kono is a coffee table made from plywood and aluminum, and its construction stays visible from every side, where a curved metal part wraps around the wooden panels and holds them in place.
I planned Kono for simple production. The aluminum parts are cut from flat sheet and bent into an L-shape, while the three main plywood parts are cut to size and slot into each other to form a stable frame. Keeping the steps this simple means less material waste and an assembly that takes very little effort.
For the prototype I 3D printed the parts that would later be made of metal, and they turned out surprisingly stable. That made me curious whether other, more eco-friendly and easier-to-process materials could work for future versions.
